Shetland Welcomes Levellers and Björn Again to The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick
Set against the stunning backdrop of Lerwick harbour, the bands will join a plethora of acts playing in a very unique location and will no doubt be one of the highlights of this year’s four day event which takes place from Thursday 21st July to Sunday 24th July.
Proving to be one of the most anticipated events in the Scottish calendar, The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick, presented by Szcezcin and organised by Sail Training International, is set to return to Shetland as a highlight of the Scottish event calendar.
Brighton band, Levellers, is renowned as one of the best live festival acts around and will make their full Shetland debut on Friday 22nd July on the Holmsgarth stage as part of their Levelling The Land Tour of 2011. Levellers experienced massive chart success in the 1990s, outselling many other favourites of the time and have recently re-released a remastered and repackaged version of their seminal album Levelling The Land. The sell-out tour, which also hits Glasgow in March, marks the 20th anniversary of the album.
Björn Again was created and founded by Rod Stephen (director and musician) in 1988 in Melbourne, Australia and is an internationally acclaimed show which celebrates the hits of the massively successful Swedish pop band, ABBA. Björn Again will hit the Holmsgarth stage on Saturday 23rd July.
The following acts will also be performing as part of the event including Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain, Eat Dr Ape, Stagger Rats and Oscar Charlie whilst a whole host of local talent will grace the stage including Rock Salt and Nails and Catriona Macdonald amongst others.
Fiona Dally, project manager of The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick, said: “We’re delighted to announce Levellers and Björn Again as headliners for this summer’s event.
“The Tall Ships Races 2011 - Lerwick will be a fantastic opportunity for our many visitors to experience the hospitality of the Islands as well as acting as a fantastic showcase for all Shetland has to offer.
“This year we hope to attract large numbers of spectators to enjoy the celebrations as well as enjoy some of the most beautiful landscape and scenery Scotland has to offer.”
The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick will attract sailors, boating enthusiasts as well as visitors and tourists from Scotland and internationally over the course of the weekend event and thousands of spectators are expected to fill the island as the biggest maritime spectacle of the year hits Shetland.
Tickets go on general sale at the beginning of March.
