Calling all volunteers!
The Tall Ships Races 2011 are Presented by Szczecin, and organised by Sail Training International (www.sailtraininginternational.org).
Every year The Tall Ships Races rely on local volunteers to help with the smooth running of the host port visits which attract thousands of visitors annually.
Lerwick harbour will host the Tall Ships for four days of fun from 21st to 24th July 2011 before Race Two, sailing to Stavanger in Norway. The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick team is looking for a number of voluntary positions to be filled in order to deliver a fantastic event in Shetland.
This year’s Races have already attracted entries from countries including Norway, Poland, Denmark and the Netherlands and organisers anticipate up to 3,000 crew will take part in the Race festivities.
Volunteers will be tasked with helping to create a lasting positive impression to all visitors of Shetland and its people; anyone who has a good knowledge of the area and excellent communication skills is invited to get involved. The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick is specifically looking for Liaison Officers who can communicate effectively with international crews and give thought to cultural diversity; full training will be given in the lead up to the event.
Liaison Officers will each be assigned to a ship in order to support its crew throughout the visit and ensure crew members have a successful visit to Shetland.
As part of the role, Liaison Officers will attend a daily meeting at headquarters, deliver mail to their ship and deal with any requests from the ship with the support of headquarters. Liaison Officers are also tasked with promoting the programme of activities on land to each vessel.
All volunteers will also be invited to attend an event celebration to thank them for their efforts.
A full list of positions and their job descriptions and application forms are currently available on the volunteer page. Please contact the Tall Ships office on 01595 744956 for further information.
