Petrofac announced as latest Host Port Sponsor

With just over four months to go until Shetland hosts over 50 Tall Ships, international oil and gas facilities provider, Petrofac has become the latest organisation to be confirmed by organisers as a Host Port Sponsor.

Petrofac, through its Offshore Engineering and Operations (OE&O) business, is the lead contractor for Total's Gas Plant Development and as part of its commitment to the Islands is generously contributing £12,000 towards the event's overall sponsorship target of £400,000. This valuable new deal brings the organisers a step closer to achieving the full sponsorship required to deliver the four day event which takes place in Lerwick from 21st – 24th July 2011.

Bill Dunnett, Managing Director of Petrofac OE&O, said "The Tall Ships Races 2011 - Lerwick is a fantastic event and one we are delighted to be sponsoring. As an annual international event it has a proven track record for having a positive impact on the local community and visitors alike. We'll certainly be taking the opportunity to join in the festivities and to make the most of this exciting occasion."

The Tall Ships Races 2011, presented by Szczecin, organised by Sail Training International, starts in Waterford, Ireland on 30th June, with vessels racing to Scotland, calling at Greenock and then taking the Cruise in Company leg to the Shetland ports of Fair Isle, Scalloway, Yell, Unst and Whalsay. Lerwick will then host the Ships for four fun-packed days before the start of Race Two sailing to Stavanger in Norway.

Fiona Dally, project manager for The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick, said: "The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick is set to be the biggest event in Shetland's calendar and we're delighted that Petrofac is supporting us in attracting thousands of sailing enthusiasts and visitors to the Northern Isles in 2011."
