Lerwick set to sparkle thanks to spectacular fireworks display
Skyburst The Firework Co., who created the original display for the 1999 Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races, will produce an even bigger fireworks extravaganza for this year's event fired from Bressay.
Beginning at 11.50pm in the evening, the pyrotechnics show will illuminate Lerwick Harbour and its waterfront, providing a breathtaking backdrop for the biggest spectacle of the maritime calendar, The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick.
Throughout the four day festival, The Tall Ships Races 2011-Lerwick will play host to a fantastic programme of events including music, dance, drama and arts, running from Thursday 21 July until Sunday 24 July and is set to attract thousands of spectators to Lerwick.
Tickets for the Levellers concert on Friday 22nd July and Björn Again on Saturday 23rd July are still available from the Shetland Box Office in Islesburgh Community Centre, by visiting the Box Office, telephoning 01595 74 5555 or visiting www.shetlandboxoffice.org.
Fiona Dally, project manager for The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick, said: "This year's display, on the eve of the Parade of Sail and the departure of the Tall Ships, is a fantastic way to commemorate the visit of the international fleet to Shetland. Special thanks must go to Skyburst The Firework Co. for its contribution of £5,000 worth of fireworks, local display leader Geoffrey Johnson and landowner John Scott for the provision of his land for the display."
Shetland will welcome 56 magnificent Tall Ships and more than 2,000 international crew from 12 countries to Lerwick.
Leigh Pittaway, display coordinator for Skyburst The Firework Co., said "Skyburst The Firework Co. is delighted to support the event and wish all the people of Shetland and its visitors a memorable experience."
