Family Entertainment - All Day Fun

At The Tall Ships Races 2011 in Lerwick we have a jam packed programme for all ages. During the event we will have lots of fun activities and performances designed for everyone to enjoy – all day long!

Walkabout Snaps!

Keep your eyes open kids! There's some furry creatures out and about. If you see them stop to say hello. You can also get your photo taken and get an instant memory to take away home.

Guess the name of the specially commissioned Burra Bear!

Wendy Inkster has made a special Burra Bear especially for The Tall Ships Races 2011 - Lerwick. The design and material was created by local textile artist Hilary Seatter.

Local photographer Mark Sinclair of Phatsheep Photography has taken a picture somewhere in Shetland. We just don't know where. Have a close look and see if you can figure it out!
 
Under The Sea!

Acrobatics, stilt walking and much much more with our team of street performers. Mythical underwater creatures will appear at various locations throughout the day! Have you seen them yet?
 
Puffin Poo Mess!

Can you help our puffin figure out how many puffin poos are in his jar?
 
Fair Ground Fun Shetland Style!

We have some special Shetland themed fun fair games for you to try out. Lots of fun prizes to be won!
 
Facepainting

10 specially created Tall Ships Races 2011 - Lerwick designs on offer. Colourful full face designs as well as smaller motifs.
Thursday - 11am - 3pm. Facepainting will move to the Club Marquee @ Laurenson Quay from Friday morning.
 
Digital Shetland

Take photos on your mobile or make a short video of your favourite bits from the event! Then visit our stall or email your images and clips to digitalshetland@gmail.com

RSPB

Visit the RSPB stall on Albert Wharf 11am-6pm. Find out more about the work of the RSPB in Shetland and 'Go Wild With Your Child' @ 12pm and 2pm (go bird watching around the harbour for an hour).

Discover the valuable treasure hidden in the seas around Shetland.

Adams Magic

Look out for our special guest Magician who will show you some tricks and make a balloon model for you! Out and about on Thursday at 11am and 2pm, then on Sunday from 2.30pm!

Please note the family entertainment programme will temporarily close on Thursday from 3pm till 6pm for the Crew Parade and Welcoming Ceremony at Holmsgarth Main Stage.

Winnie's Mum is moving house and much to Winnie's annoyance she has to help clear out some of her old belongings. There are lots of surprises in store as Winnie explores what's inside her great big suitcase. Fun filled short play from local writer Jacqui Clark starring Shetland actress Catriona Thomson.

It's nesting season in the crows nest and Patience has run out of patience with Bertie. When a Tall Ship arrives she flees the nest leaving poor old Bertie to try and lay an egg! Captain Bullock rides Polly, his temperamental, permanently peckish, giant parrot, on a quest for treasure, birdseed and romance. Meanwhile Meranda the gorgeous Mermaid, in her seahorse drawn chariot, flirts with passing handsome sailors!
